    About me

My name is Annmarie and I am an IFS Level 3 therapist, a psychodynamic counsellor, and trained in Brainspotting Level 3. I am also trained in Deep Brain reorienting Level 2. I am a qualified registered mental health nurse with over 30 years experience, a qualified meditation and yoga instructor, and a reiki master.

I aim to provide a space where clients can be met exactly as they are on their healing journey – with no pressure, no judgment, and plenty of support. My approach is warm, present and intuitive, allowing us to work at a pace that feels right for you. I genuinely believe that each person holds the answers within themselves, and that healing unfolds naturally when we create room for those inner truths to surface. No matter which modality we use, my intension is always to help you reconnect with your own wisdom and sense of wholeness.

My counselling practice is based in Naas, Co Kildare, Ireland, and I provide online IFS counselling using apps such as Zoom and Teams.

I am registered on the IFS directory, Brainspotting Ireland and Brainspotting UK directories, and the NMBI regulatory body for nurses.

IFS – Parts

‘Parts’ as they are known make up our inner personality, which IFS divides into three types: Managers, Exiles and Firefighters.

  • Managers, which are parts with pre-emptive protective roles that are responsible for our day to day safety. Some common manager roles include critics, taskmasters, approval seekers, pessimists, caregivers, victims.
  • Firefighters that act just once when we feel we are in a situation of perceived danger and they will do whatever they think they need to do to take us out of a perceived dangerous situation.
  • Exiles, which are protected by the managers and firefighters, are parts that are vulnerable and those that we try to lock up in our inner prisons … or leave frozen in the past.

By identifying these parts we can work together to address:

  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • OCD
  • Addiction
  • Coping skills
  • Anger management
  • Stress
  • Self-esteem
  • Co-dependency
  • Mood disorders
  • Thinking disorders
  • Bullying
  • Stress
  • Anxiety and Panic Attacks
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Bereavement and loss

How IFS works

IFS is a unique form of therapy that works in a very gentle way where the client dictates the pace. IFS enables the client to connect with their true authentic selves (the core self), healing past and present pain/trauma.

Often situations in our present life trigger us in a way that we do not understand and find hard to deal with. IFS supports our internal system in a way that allows us to access these triggers to see what lies behind, healing and unburdening the hurt parts.

IFS is an evidence-based form of therapy and is extremely effective in treating trauma, depression, anxiety, and much more.

Brainspotting

Brainspotting is a gentle yet powerful therapy that helps the brain process and release unresolved trauma, tension, or stuck emotions. It works on the principle that where you look can affecthow you feel – by guiding your gaze to specific points in your visual field, we can access and release deeper emotional and physiacl experiences that are stored in the body and mind.

Unlike talking therapies alone, Brainspotting taps directly into the body’s innate ability to process difficult experiences, often bringing relief from symptoms such as:

  • Anxiety and overwhelm
  • Chronic stress
  • Emotional blocks or patterns
  • Physical tension related to past experiences

Sessions are guided, slow, and attuned to your needs. I take a present and intuitive approach, listening carefully to all levels of your experience – what you feel, sense, and notice in your body. This allows the healing process to unfold naturally, at a pace that feels safe and supportive

Brainspotting is suitable for a wide range of experiences, whether you’re dealing with trauma, navigating life transitions, or simply wanting to feel more grounded, clear, and at ease in your body and mind.

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR)

Deep Brain Reorienting is a therapeutic approach deigned to reach the earliest of layers of the brain’s response to threat – the place where tension, shock, and survival instincts are held long before we’re even conscious of them.

When someting overwhwlming happens, the body reacts first:a tightening of the neck; a flinch, a jolt to the system. DBR works with these subtle physical cues to trace our way back to the original moment the nervous system registered danger. By following this natural sequence at a slow and compassionate pace, the body can complete what it never got to finish at the time.

This often results in:

  • A deep sense of settling
  • Reduced reactivity
  • Increased emotional steadiness
  • Relief from lomg-held patterns connected to trauma

DBR doesn’t require you to tell your story in detail. Instead, we tune into the body’s innate ability to unwind shock at the root, creating a grounded sense of ease and clarity. Clients often describe it as gentle, powerful, and surprisingly precise.
